2.298 billion, the Indian government approved Micro LED and Mini-LED production plant projects

According to foreign media MicroLED-info, the Indian government recently approved Crystal Matrix Limited’s new project to build a Micro LED and Mini-LED production plant in Gujarat. The total investment is expected to be 32 billion Indian rupees (approximately US$338 million, 2.298 billion yuan). Located in Dholera, the new factory will establish an integrated factory integrating compound semiconductor manufacturing and ATMP (assembly, testing, marking and packaging) to produce 6-inch GaN Micro LED and Mini-LED wafers, as well as Mini-LED and Micro-LED displays. According to the approved plan, Crystal Matrix's new factory will have an annual production capacity of 72,000 square meters of display panels and 24,000 epitaxial wafers. The company stated that its target products cover a wide range of display fields, from large-size TV panels to IT and smartphone displays to micro-displays. According to the company's official website, the GaN epitaxial wafer production plan includes the production of 6-inch GaN and AlGaInP LED epitaxial wafers in three colors: red, green, and blue; at the same time, the company is cooperating with Lumens and Soft-Epi to develop this production technology. For the production of Micro LED modules (displays), the company plans to build an ATMP (assembly, testing, marking and packaging) factory for productionMini LED/Micro LED COB/COG display panel. The company stated that COB is the current mainstream technology architecture for small spacing, and the proportion of new product screens in 2024-2025 will reach 57%. COG transfers the Micro-LED bare chip to the glass substrate through mass transfer technology, uses TFT active matrix row driver, and completes the bonding through anisotropic conductive film (ACF); ultimately, the module depth can be less than 3 mm, the contrast ratio can reach OLED level, greater than 1000000:1, and the AM driver IC can achieve a refresh rate of up to 12000 Hz. At the same time, in terms of MLED panel specifications, Crystal Matrix has two product series, CxL-FP (modular) and CxL-AIO (integrated), which support HDR10/HDR10+, high refresh rate and wide color gamut standards, and adopts flip-chip LED architecture design and common cathode power supply solution, which is suitable for theaters, radio and television studios, boardrooms, command centers and other scenarios. It is understood that Crystal Matrix Ltd. was established in 2021 and is a developer focusing on the development of GaN-based Mini/Micro-LED displays; since 2016, companies have been exploring the Mini/Micro-LED display ecosystem. Looking to the future, the company stated that the establishment of India's first gallium nitride-based display manufacturing ecosystem can achieveStrategic transformation from assembly-led operations to advanced manufacturing. At the same time, India's strength in the semiconductor field can also be consolidated through the design, development and manufacturing of sapphire gallium nitride devices, Mini/Micro-LED display panels, and ATMP solutions.
